To Save the Date or Not Save the Date
Ok, you’ve set the date for your wedding…eeekk, you’re so excited! All you want to do is tell all your guests to save your date! But is it necessary to send a save the date card or is it just another expense that you need to think about? Here are my hot tips on when to save the date or not Save the Date:
When to send a Save the Date
If you’re getting married abroad or interstate and your guests must make travel arrangements and or apply for annual leave in advance
If you’re getting married in under 12 months but don’t have any of the finer details yet (venue, time etc.) but want to make sure all your guests can be there
If you really want one just because, and you have the budget to do so!
When not to send a Save the Date
If most of your guests are local and don’t need to make travel plans
If you speak to all your guests regularly and they all know when and where your wedding is, and it was locked in their calendar the day you got engaged!
If you’re a super organised person and have all your details for your big day (venue, time etc.), you can go straight to the invitation (well done to you!)
If you have a limited budget and you’d rather put that money towards something else
I personally broke my own rules and have sent our Save the Dates about 14 months before our wedding. We’re getting married locally and only have a handful of guests travelling from interstate and they all knew about our date. However, this is what I do for a living and I wanted to send one anyway even though I didn’t really need too! I guess I fell into the third rule about when to send a Save the Date.
